So-called Shuriken Mode is almost exact copy of mini-game that you've seen in Story Mode. The goal is the same - you're killing Magerappas by throwing shurikens (Square button) and destroying the stuff they throwing at you with your Keitai Ninto Hayatemaru (X Button). Unlike parts of Story Mode, stages in Shuriken Mode are long and you'll need to kill a lot of enemies, while trying to survive. The goal this time is to make it as quick as possible and to try to beat your own personal records. There's no difference between characters in this mode (aside from voices), but I'll show you all of them in this video.
Taisen Mode ("Taisen" means "Competition" in Japanese) in this game is like an in-built fighting game. You can play as any in-game heroes and villains (you can even use GaoRed from Gaoranger mode), but you'll need to unlock them by playing the other modes. Also, you can unlock Hamster-kanchō. All in all, it's a typical fighting game. So, rules are different from those in Story Mode and Hurricaneger vs. Gaoranger mode. You can perform regular special moves, of course, but there'll be no NP gauge. Unfortunately, there's no two players option and the only way to play this mode is the one against CPU, so, it isn't that fun. Especially since it's incredibly unbalanced and characters like Nanami and Ikkō are way too overpowered. But still, it's a nice mode to have.
In this video I'll show you some random fights with all heroes (GaoRed included).
Second mode of the game. All in all, it's almost the same with Story Mode and using the same rules, only this time you can't choose the main character. Why? Well, because it's all about Kakeru-sensei (GaoRed) from Hyakujū Sentai Gaoranger (百獣戦隊ガオレンジャー). He and Gaorangers' GaoIcarus giant robo will join Hurricanegers to help them to win against extremely powerful Uchū Ninja (Space Ninja). Who's the biggest game exclusive, by the way. Literally biggest, since the sucker is huge and strong. Well, this mode is designed to be a little more difficult, like there'll be more Magerappas and boss will be strong, but since he's big, it's too easy to get close to him. Therefore, throws work perfectly. Since those are doing a lot of damage, I really recommend them. Also, you need to be really fast with button mashing phase during the giants part. It gave me enough time to show you the Hurry Up mode, though ^_^ Enjoy! ^_^
Ninpū Sentai Hurricaneger (忍風戦隊ハリケンジャー) game for SONY PlayStation console was released in 2002 and is based on TOEI's tokusatsu series with the same name. This is a main mode of the game, where players should fight their way through some levels and fight regular foot soldiers (Genin Magerappa), so-called Ankuro Shuichihon Yari (Seven Spears of Darkness, a part of the group called Uchūningun Jakanja, who are the main villains in series) and their Uchū Ninja (Space Ninjas). In this mode we'll fight all Spears, except the final one, Sandāru (unfortunately, no Ikeda Shūichi-san's voice in this game). As for Space Ninjas, in this mode you'll meet Sargain's Jishakunin Jishakkumo (from second episode of the original series), Enkirinin Siransu (episode 8) and Satarakura's Kōsuinin Kirakorōne (that's right, no Chuuzubō's Ninjas in this game). We'll also fight both with and against Gōraiger team and Ninja of Ninja, Shurikenger-sama will join the fun too.
All in all this mode is almost the same with the one in Hyakujū Sentai Gaoranger (百獣戦隊ガオレンジャー) game, that was released a year before (Leader of Gaorangers, GaoRed even included in the other mode of this game). First, you should make it through the crowd of Magerappas, then you should fight regular boss and, finally, you should win in a battle of giants. The rules in regular battles are almost the same with those in Gaoranger game. Which means that it'll be your regular Beat 'Em Up game. Only this time you can choose the main and supporting character and to perform a powerful special move you should get some NP (Ninpū? Ninpū Points? Ninja Points? Sorry, I have this game without a booklet) by performing a regular attacks. To make it short, kick some ass to fill "NP" gauge. Also, as you can see, there are three points on NP gauge. If you'll press the Triangle button when you'll make it to the first one, it'll be just a regular special move. Chō Ninpō Sora Gake (超忍法・空駆け) for Yōsuke, Chō Ninpō Minamo Bashiri (超忍法・水面走り) for Nanami and so on. If you'll get enough NP to get to the second point on the gauge, Triangle button will activate the same movies, but with two heroes at the same time (like it was in Gaoranger game). Finally, third point will unlock an ultimate team attack. Note that enemies can easily block and / or avoid such attacks now and if they'll do, the whole NP will be lost. So, be careful.
Of course, there are regular special moves that can be performed without NP, just by using the right combination of buttons. Different characters have different moves and, I must say, that this game is incredibly unbalanced. If you just want to clear the game, I recommend Nanami, since her Chō Ninpō Suiryūha (超忍法・水流破) is fast, easy to perform, and deals a heavy damage to all enemies on its way. Also, Nanami has more powerful and easy moves, so, she's like a killing machine in this game. I'll show you all characters and different moves, though. Just to make this video interesting.
Also, there's another addition to regular fights - shuriken battles. Basically, it's a shooting mini-game, in which you should kill Magerappas with shurikens (Square button). They'll try to attack you too by throwing various garbage at you (like in light gun games), but you can easily destroy those with your Keitai Ninto Hayatemaru (X button).
As for the battles of giants, there are some changes too. Those are much easier than in Gaoranger game, since game will clearly show you where enemy's projectiles will strike and you don't need to chase enemies anymore, but still, there's something you should know. Like in Gaoranger game, in the first part of such battles you should dodge, or try to repel (like in those Ganondorf battles in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) enemy's projectiles. When you'll do it enough, you'll see a special "CHANCE" mark around the enemy. Press any attack button and you'll get into a second phase. And that's where you'll start to notice real differences from Gaoranger game. First, you'll need to go through button mashing part. Just press any attack button (but only one) as fast as you can to get closer to your enemy, or he'll push your back and you'll return to the previous phase of the battle. It's really easy in this mode, but it'll be a little harder in the next one. Anyway, when you'll get closer, just point the camera on your enemy and when you'll see "OK", start punching the stuff out of him. You can use fists, or weapon, but there's no much difference this time, since fists lost their meaning that they had in Gaoranger game. There's NP gauge in this kind of battles too and you can use the triangle button to unleash powerful attacks with various Karakuri Balls. Obviously, the more NP you have, the more powerful attack will be. And that's it about such battles.
Like in Gaoranger game, this mode is very spectacular and if you like the original series, you'll sure like it too, because it's like a little special episode. It's trying to re-create some parts of the original story in a simple way and also include a little game exclusive monster - Satarakura's copy.
Hyakujū Sentai Gaoranger (百獣戦隊ガオレンジャー) is 25th entry in Toei's long-running Super Sentai Series(スーパー戦隊シリーズ) that is considered as 25th Anniversary series. This game is based on the original series and includes some parts of it as cutscenes.
Player should follow the original plot and defeat two Baron Orgs (Hansen Org and Bulldozer Org), then Highness Duke Org Shuten, then Rōki and, finally, Yabaiba, Tsuetsue and Highness Duke Org Rasetsu (yep, no Highness Duke Org Ura in this game). As a nice bonus in the end of this game we'll get an exclusive monster called King Org.
Gameplay is divided in two parts. First one is a typical Beat 'Em Up game. Player takes a role of Kakeru-sensei (GaoRed) and can't choose. The other heroes will join in the middle of the battle and will allow player to perform powerful special attacks. To make it short - if Kakeru-sensei is fighting alone, triangle button will make him to shoot Gao Mane Buster, which will cost him some life (there's also a hidden move with Gao Mane Buster that doesn't need life to work, but instead requires a right combination of buttons). But if there's another member nearby, triangle button will activate a special move, which deals a lot of damage and won't harm Kakeru-sensei.
A battles of giants are different. In this game player will use GaoKing, GaoMuscle Striker and GaoIcarus (yet again, can't choose), but there won't be much difference. In battles of giants there are two phases. In the first one you'll need to dodge, or strike back enemy's shots. If you've played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (ゼルダの伝説 時のオカリナ), then you know what to do. Note that not all attacks can be reflected and sometimes it's better to dodge, since it's too easy to miss a shot and those will deal a lot of damage. In such cases quick dashes (double pressing on D-Pad) will help a lot. Anyway, when you'll see a special mark, you should press attack button to enter the second phase. In a second phase it's enemy's time to dodge. It won't be able to attack and that's the only time when you can deal proper damage. Unfortunately, enemy won't stay still and you'll need to catch it, which may be hard. And you won't have much time - after some seconds enemy will push you back and you'll need to dodge again.
There are two kinds of attacks in second phase. First is a powerful strike (X button) and second one is a quick series of punches (O button). Second one is the best way to catch enemy. Move, use quick dashes and try to catch enemy with punches. Then, when it'll jump away from you to the left, or to the right, do the quick dash to the same direction (you'll land on the same spot with your enemy) and do powerful strike. Repeat.
That's basically it. This game is actually very short - there are only five short levels and special final battle, so, you can beat it in like 20 minutes if you'll skip the cutscenes, but, of course, I won't skip them, since those are absolutely awesome. Well, it's just henshin (transformation) and gattai (combination) scenes from the original series, but still, it's a great thing to see them in game.
